Here's a sentence we won't get to type very often: Rolls-Royce has issued a recall for the 2010 Ghost. The problem lies in a faulty circuit board, which can cause damage to the vehicle's electric auxiliary water pump and, in certain cases, start an engine fire. 

If that description sounds a little familiar, it should. On Monday, Rolls-Royce's parent company, BMW, issued a recall for 5-Series, 7-Series, X5, and X6 models for exactly the same problem. The scope of this recall is a little smaller, though: whereas 32,084 vehicles are involved in BMW's recall, Rolls-Royce's recall affects only 589.

To recap: the flaw on the 2010 Ghost lies in the circuit board for the electric auxiliary water pump. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the circuit board can overheat, potentially causing damage to the fuel pump and engine compartment or, in worst-case scenarios, a fire. The problem affects Ghosts with turbocharged engines that were manufactured between September 2009 and September 2010.

If you own one of the vehicles affected by this recall, you should receive a notice from Rolls-Royce later this month. At that time, you'll be able to visit your local Rolls-Royce dealer, who will replace the water pump (not the circuit board) free of charge.

2011 Kia Sorento, 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Recalled For Driveshaft Issue

Some Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento crossover utility vehicles are being recalled for an issue that could lead to early failure of their automatic transmissions.

About 6,169 Santa Fe models, made from October 15, 2009 through March 5, 2010 and all with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, are affected by the new recall.

Due to an intermediate shaft (driveshaft) that's misaligned with the transmission's right side input gear, the intermediate shaft may prematurely wear or become noisy, eventually causing damage to the automatic transmission. The issue is signaled by a whirring or whining noise and could lead to transmission failure.

As part of the recall effort, dealerships will replace the output gear and (properly aligned) intermediate shaft free of charge.

The 2011 Kia Sorento is also affected by the same issue. Up to 12,690 Sorento models, produced through May 22, 2010, are being recalled.

The recall effort for the Hyundai Santa Fe will begin in June, while Kia's recall effort will begin later this month. Customers may call Hyundai at 800-633-5151, or Kia at 800-333-4542.

2011 Honda Odyssey Recalled For Windshield-Wiper Issue

Honda has announced that it will be recalling 33,341 Honda Odyssey minivans, all from the 2011 model year, to fix a potential issue with the windshield wipers.

In cold-weather use, if the wiper system is turned on while the wipers themselves are still frozen to the windshield, the system’s linkage rod might bend, preventing normal wiper operation and potentially affecting the driver’s forward view.

The Odyssey has been completely redesigned for 2011, and as we've reported, it can rightly be called the safest minivan as it's the first  to have earned both top five-star safety scores from the federal government across the board as well as the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation.
