Long Term Update 6: 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS

Better Road Master: By and Large, a Great Road-Trip CompanionFrom the June, 2011 issue of Motor Trend / Photography by Jessica GermillerAssociate online editor Scott Evans spent some quality road-trip time in the LaCrosse. "'A Buick?' That's what everyone kept asking when I told them what car I was driving. What car would I rather take on an 800-mile drive? Considering how poor the weather was the weekend before, I was glad to have a car with a good set of all-season tires."

The seats offer virtually no lateral support, but I found them comfortable for kicking back with the cruise control on. The steering is not performance-oriented, but being light and quick made it incredibly easy to drive in parking lots and on the interstate. My brother, his girlfriend, and his roommate were bewildered by the amount of space inside the car and, despite initial reservations, came to appreciate the Buick as a long hauler." Scott also echoed the opinions of others that there is room for improvement. "The huge rear doors make it hard to exit in tight parking lots. The A-pillars are absolutely massive and make looking through a corner nearly impossible. Though it's easy to maneuver, once you get it into the parking spot you realize how little room you had to work with.

2010 Buick Lacrosse Cxs Front View "I also have some reservations about the interior. I like the soft armrests on the doors, but the fact that they almost completely obscure the door handles is infuriating. And what's with the cheap plastic center armrest? It's totally out of sync with the rest of the better-quality interior plastics." Overall, though, he does like the LaCrosse: "The Buick was, by and large, a great road-trip companion. My trip was smooth, relaxed, and comfortable. And after 800 miles in two days, that's what I really wanted. The car needs a bit of final polishing, but it's already a better-looking, better-driving car than anything Buick's done in years, and I appreciate that."
